hallucinatory dance opera
co-creation with Club Guy & Roni and Slagwerk Den Haag
In his novel "Naked Lunch", published in 1959, William S. Burroughs created a world in which it's impossible to define the borders between reality and imagination. The main person ends up in weird situations and is hallucinating, not knowing if what he sees is real or his own imagination. The novel, a non-linear narrative, is a source of inspiration for a performance about a reality which confuses imagination, hallucination, sexuality, drugs and voilence.
Alongside the dancers of Club Guy & Roni, the cast of this stunning dance- and music production consists of percussionists of Slagwerk Den Haag and singers of Silbersee. Yannis Kyriakides composes the music. The libretto is written by Oscar van Woensel, known by theatre group Dood Paard. With interdisciplinary tools*Naked Lunch*investigates the borders of the soul. The performance shows how far you can go in extending your mental boundaries, before you lose your mind.
