La glasgolie (fictitious term, enveloped in an aura of mystery)

A sense of desolation, somewhere between nostalgia and melancholy

The Glasgolia Inn is a notorious bar in Glasgow. Burly sea dogs gather together there the night before they go to sea for a long period. They sing and make merry. But behind these rowdy drunken man's songs lies a fragile sense of fear and loneliness, and uncertainty about what is to come: la glasgolie.

*The Shanty House* is an ode to sea shanties; an imaginary museum that transcends time and space. In what way can these shanties still have meaning today? In what way can *la glasgolie*be found in each one of us? The artist Patrick Corillon, composer Thomas Smetryns and director Dominique Roodthooft are looking into it for us. They chart the human soul on the basis of objects and music.

Can we ever escape la glasgolie? Or do we not actually want to?
